What is Moissanite?

Moissanite is a near-colorless gemstone composed of silicon carbide. Discovered in 1893 by French scientist Henri Moissan, who won the Nobel Prize in Chemistry, it was found in the crater left by a fallen meteor.

Although they look alike initially, moissanite differs significantly from a diamond. Diamonds consist of carbon, while moissanites comprise pure silicon carbide, an exceptionally scarce, naturally-occurring mineral.

The natural moissanite discovered by Moissan in 1893 is exceedingly rare, making it nearly impossible to use for jewelry. Due to its scarcity, natural moissanite is not used today, with laboratory-created moissanite being the standard.

moissanite vs. diamond

Moissanite gemstones are colorless (graded D, E, or F), have high clarity (VS1 or better), and an Excellent Cut.

Their superior strength makes them less prone to cracking and chipping compared to diamonds.

Moissanite is an affordable, durable, and earth-conscious alternative to a mined diamond.
