Kundra, Obama’s Pick for CIO

Posted on March 11, 2009

Vivek Kundra, US Government CIOI read that Obama’s new CIO has a preference for SaaS and Cloud Computing [see me punching the air with my fist and yelling “yes!”].  SaaS’ time has come…

Obama has selected Vivek Kundra to be CIO of the U.S.  He was marketing executive of Evincible before it got acquired.  Evincible did data validation on form’s input, in other words e-Signature.  They sold to government and finance.  That’s even more exciting.

The Wall Street Journal Online quoted him as saying, “I’m a big believer in disruptive technology.”   Using old approaches and legacy systems, to paraphrase the article’s own paraphrase, is a sure way to become outdated. “If I went to the coffee shop, I would have more computing power than the police department,” he said.

In the Journal article, Mr. Kundra is quoted as saying, “I’m all about the cloud computing notion.”

He added,  “I am killing projects that don’t investigate software as a service first.”

I haven’t met Vivek yet or seen him speak.  But I like him.
